Talking to My Child About Race and Racism.

We know that navigating the difficult topics can feel overwhelming, but it is so important to talk to our little ones about the challenges we face in this world. In this vein, we have pulled together resources for our early childcare community and families to help navigate the hard conversations of race and racism.

Our vision is one where all families will have access to quality services so that children in Henderson County have an opportunity to reach their full potential. To fulfill this vision we must work to ensure equitable systems here at home, in Henderson County.

Smart Start Partnership for Children works to support, educate, and advocate to build a strong foundation for young children in our community, all young children, including children of color. Black lives matter. To our Smart Start family who root your identities in communities of color, we stand with you in grief. From the acting President of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, “Our goals for our organizational culture and for NC’s children cannot be achieved without recognizing and dismantling the systems of bias that provide privilege to some and are unjust to others. That means committing—individually and collectively, again and again—to reflect and grapple with the racism in ourselves, our organizations, and our society.”
