Lucretia Starling, RN

Nurse Home Visitor

Lucretia recently joined the Family Connects Team as a Registered Nurse after retiring from 25 years in Public Health. The vast majority of her nursing career has been spent in the care of women and children. She enjoys working with new moms and babies and feels education and support are an important part of successful parenting. She is married and has two grown children who have provided her with four beautiful grandchildren which she cherishes spending time with. Family and family connections are important to Lucretia. In her free time, she loves RVing with family and spending long days on the beach.


Karen Escobar, RN

Nurse Home Visitor

Karen has been an inpatient maternal child nurse for almost ten years. Her experience includes antepartum, labor and delivery, women’s surgical, and pediatric care. She is originally from Mexico but has been in North Carolina since she was a young child. She is married and has two wonderful children. She loves to enjoy time with family, outdoors and traveling.


Tarah Starling, RN

Nurse Home Visitor

Tarah Starling joined Smart Start Partnership for Children as a Family Connects Nurse Home Visitor in January 2022. Tarah grew up in Henderson County and has worked 12 years in this community as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and Pediatric care. Tarah has 3 wonderful children. Together, as a family, they enjoy camping and working on their hobby farm! Tarah is excited to bring her expertise to the Family Connects Team and to support families after bringing home their babies.


Ruth Ramírez-Tafolla

Data and Program Support Specialist

Ruth Ramírez-Tafolla joined Smart Start Partnership for Children in September 2021 in a new role as Data and Program Support Specialist for Family Connects. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo and has worked in the nonprofit world for the last 16 years. She has two teenage daughters and enjoys spending time outdoors.


Paige Prichard, MSN, RN, CCM

Nurse Supervisor

Paige joined the Family Connects team in September 2021 and serves as the nursing supervisor for the home visiting nurses. Paige received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UNC Chapel Hill and her Master’s in Nursing Leadership from Western Carolina University. She has 14 years of public health experience working with pregnant women and children and is looking forward to partnering with Smart Start to bring nurse home visiting to our community. 


Diana Curran, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Diana Curran is the Medical Director of the Henderson County Department of Public Health. She is a family physician and faculty member with the Hendersonville Family Medicine Residency Program. In addition to patient care, Dr. Curran teaches and performs a wide variety of administrative services for the health department.

Dr. Curran graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1993, and completed her residency at the MAHEC Family Medicine Residency in Asheville. She has completed a fellowship in Faculty Development at the UNC School of Medicine and earned an added certificate in Community Preparedness and Disaster Management from the UNC School of Public Health.

Dr. Curran is married with two children and enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking, paddling, cooking, reading and traveling.


Kelly Hart

Program Administrator

Kelly serves as the Program Director for Smart Start Partnership for Children. She has 12 years of experience working in social services in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Masters Degree in Counseling. When she is not overseeing programs she is spending time outdoors, traveling, baking, crocheting, and reading good books.
